Supporting Language During Sensitive Periods of Development
Abstract
This paper provides an overview of literature specific to factors affecting language development during the early years of human development. The influences of attachment, parenting, and home environment are discussed, along with the research pertaining to genetics, the environment, and critical and sensitive periods specific to early language development. Prevention and early intervention models are then described, culminating in recommendations on how to directly and indirectly support language development during the first five years of life.Downloads
